Phases Privacy Policy

Last updated July 31, 2026

Phases is a personal progress-tracking app. It turns photos you take into aligned timelapse videos. This policy explains what it stores and where.

What it stores, and where

  • Full-resolution photos never leave your device unless you connect Google Drive for optional backup & sync. On-device originals live in your browser's storage (IndexedDB). When you back up, they go only to your own Google Drive, into a dedicated folder the app creates. It never touches our servers.
  • Metadata (category, capture date, alignment anchors, and a small gallery thumbnail) is stored in a private database so the gallery and streaks work across devices. Full-resolution image content is not stored on our servers.
  • Google Drive is optional. Connecting it grants the app access to its own Drive folder for backup. Tokens are stored per-account and used only to read and write its own files.

What it does not do

  • No advertising, and no selling or sharing of your data with third parties.
  • No tracking of your photos, ever. Optional product analytics (PostHog) runs only if you accept the consent banner, and never sees photo content. Details in the Cookie Policy.
  • No access to any Google Drive files outside its own dedicated folder.

Face data

Timelapse alignment detects eye positions to keep your face centred between frames. This runs entirely on your device, in your browser. Face landmarks are cached locally (in your browser's storage) to speed up re-runs and are never uploaded.

Billing

Phases Pro is sold through Google Play and the App Store, and those stores handle payment. Phases never sees or stores your card number. The store is the merchant of record for every purchase.

To know whether your account is entitled to Pro, the app asks RevenueCat (our billing provider) using an app-generated account id: your Phases user id, not your email or your name. RevenueCat receives that id along with your purchase state, so it can tell the app whether Pro is active. It does not receive your photos or any photo content.

Deleting your data

Deleting an item in the app removes its database record, the on-device copy, and any backed-up file from your Google Drive. You can delete your entire account and all stored data at phasesapp.vercel.app/delete-account or via Settings → Delete account. You can also delete the app's folder directly in Google Drive at any time, and revoke its access from your Google Account permissions.
